Select Recipes from the San Diego Jewish Food Festival
Here is a sneak peek at one of the recipes included in the original Jewish Food Festival Cookbook. It is from Gloria Sheinbein, “Founder” of the first Jewish Food Festival, that took place in Oklahoma City.
Sunshine Cake by Gloria Sheinbein
- 6 large eggs separated
- ½ cup orange juice
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- ¾ tsp. cream of tartar
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 ½ cup flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
Beat egg whites with tartar until stiff. Beat egg yolks with orange juice until very foamy. Add sugar and vanilla, beat until thickened.
Sift flour and baking powder together and add alternately with whites.
Pour into ungreased tube pan. Bake 1 hour at 350°. Invert on rack and do not take out of pan until cold.
